About IHU

A campus, a community, a calling.

Indiana Hoosiers University has spent two centuries teaching, researching, and graduating people who go on to remake their fields.

Our story

Chartered in 1820, IHU began as a small seminary on the edge of the Indiana frontier. Today it is one of the country's pre-eminent residential research universities, with eight schools, a globally ranked music program, and a tradition of intercollegiate athletics that defines fall Saturdays in Bloomington.

What we stand for

We believe a great university is judged by how it treats its undergraduates. Small classes, accessible faculty, and a residential campus model are not accidents of our history — they are the deliberate ingredients of a Hoosier education.

Excellence

We expect serious work and we support the people doing it.

Belonging

Every student finds people, traditions, and places that feel like home.

Stewardship

We protect the campus, the community, and the trust that built them.
